visitng new orleans
I just got back from New Orleans and I had a great time! It was my first visit there to see my daughter who just got married and moved down there. I was wondering how things would be after Katrina and amazingly the people have come very far in the last two years, the city is still beautiful thought signs of Katrina are very present. Our visit to the ninth ward was an eye opener. Even after two years the area is struggling, many people trying to rebuild, schools shut down, churches shut down. The people are trying to get their lives back and thanks to people like Brad Pitt and others with the Pink Project and Make it Right and the habitat people and musicians village hopefully they will. We saw the pink project which is trying to get off the ground. The idea to build 150 homes is great. We toured the area and saw a few people working and we saw an outdoor church with people singing. I just made a donation to the house building project. God knows these people sure need it. They have sure been hit hard down there.
In the french quarter and the garden district and uptown things are moving right along! We took a mule ride in the buggy through the french quarter and our driver was a funny gal! We went in the cathedral and lit a candle for the kids! We went to napoleons and had a muffelata for lunch. And we shopped in the french quarter. That night we ate at Dick and Jenny's restaurant where the food was awesome! We had drinks at the Columns where they were filming a movie called Raising Madison, and the streetcars are running again! The next day we did the garden district and magazine street. We saw peyton mannings house and john goodmans and nicholas cage's house. That night we went to Galetois restaurant downtown and it was great! Then we went to Pat Obriens for hurricane drinks. Our last day we went out to Jean Lafitte national park and did the nature walk and we saw an alligator and some birds too. We had poboys at Liuzas at the Track and they were great too! We saw people riding horses on the levee near audubon park, I would love to do that someday also. We saw Jesuit high school and Sacred heart and Loyola and Tulane and Gentilly district and Bourbon St. We had a great time and hope to visit again soon.
